Miguel Ferreira is a Portuguese classical guitarist based in Switzerland. He trained in Porto with André Pires Costa and Artur Caldeira, and completed a Master Concert and a Master in Pedagogy at the Haute École de Musique with George Vassilev. He performs as a soloist and in chamber music, with the guitar duo Duo Raiya and with flautist Leonor Moreira, in Portugal, Switzerland and France. In 2026 he received First Prize at the Concurso Nacional de Música de Câmara de Vila Verde and Second Prize for solo guitar at the Prémio Manuel Ivo Cruz.

Miguel Ferreira is a Portuguese classical guitarist living in Switzerland. His work centres on solo performance, sound exploration and chamber music. His approach starts from the classical tradition while searching out the many timbral and expressive possibilities of the instrument, across different repertoires, ensembles and artistic projects.

He began his training at the Academia de Música de Costa Cabral in Porto with André Pires Costa, continued his studies at the Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espetáculo under Artur Caldeira, and went on to complete a Master Concert and a Master in Pedagogy at the Haute École de Musique with George Vassilev.

He has performed in Portugal, Switzerland and France, as a soloist, including with orchestra, and in a range of chamber formations. He has also been invited to join and develop projects and collaborations that explore new musical languages.

His training includes masterclasses and encounters with some of today’s most recognised guitarists, among them Marcin Dylla, Pavel Steidl, Mak Grgic, Aniello Desiderio and Petra Poláčková.

In 2026 he began taking part in competitions, with immediate results: First Prize at the Concurso Nacional de Música de Câmara de Vila Verde, and Second Prize for solo guitar at the Prémio Manuel Ivo Cruz, in an edition where no First Prize was awarded. It is a particularly promising start, in chamber music and as a soloist.

Chamber music holds an important place in his current work. With Duo Raiya he explores original and transcribed repertoire for two guitars, and with flautist Leonor Moreira he develops a project for flute and guitar.

Through a constant exploration of sound, timbre and the expressive range of the guitar, Miguel Ferreira is building an artistic identity of his own, bringing together the richness of the instrument’s tradition with an openness to creation, collaboration and experimentation.
